The Alligator-River Story
discussion exercise
First,
without talking to anyone else in the class, decide by yourself who, in your
opinion, is the worst character in the story. Rate this character number 1.
Next
decide who in your opinion is the second worst character. Rate this character number 2. Do the same with the rest of the characters,
rating them number 3,4,5 and so on (write the rating number next to each of the
characters’ names).
After
you have rated all the characters, compare your ratings with those of the
persons next to you. Are the ratings
the same or different?
Discuss
what you think each character did wrong and should have done differently
example:
Sinbad was wrong to make his
proposal to Rosemary.
Sinbad should have helped
Rosemary with no strings attached.
explanation:
We use should have + past
participle when we think someone acted incorrectly and should have acted
differently:
|
subject |
should |
have |
past participle |
object/complement |
|
Sinbad |
should |
have |
helped |
Rosemary |
Your opinions about the
characters (use should have)
